About Us
The University of the Philippines Alumni-Guam (UPAG) is a non-profit organization composed of graduates or former students of the University of the Philippines, an institute of higher learning in the Republic of the Philippines. Foremost among its objectives is to undertake continuing reciprocal interchange of insights with the academic community on Guam’s development and process. Members are professionals from various academic disciplines such as medicines, nursing, business and finance, engineering, architecture, education and many more.
Founded in 1980, UPAG continues its leadership and involvement in civic and educational endeavors and community services. Its activities through time had been good combination of attention to its membership, involvement in scholarship of and discussion of national and local issues, socio-cultural projects and fundraising for other voluntary organizations both on Guam and in the Philippines.
UPAG sponsored several educational forums and socio-cultural projects throughout the years. “Guam’s Quest for Commonwealth: Charting Guam’s Future” a 1993 symposium was one of the most memorable, with the late historian Dr. Renato Constantino as the guest speaker. In 2002, UPAG implemented a grant funded by Guam Humanities Council on “Delicacy in Wraps”, a food forum and food display for tasting by the Guam community.
UPAG coordinates with the umbrella organization, the Filipino Community of Guam (FCG), in raising funds for various community projects. UPAG members also serve as volunteers for Habitat For Humanity and strong advocates for Gawad Kalinga. Several of the members are active in various civic organizations (Lion Club, anymore ???), church activities, government regulatory boards and professional and family associations. |
